Let’s end this with an excerpt!
“What the hell?!” Kade jumped back, only a towel wrapped around his waist. Water still glistened on his sculpted chest, his hair damp, swept back with his hands she assumed. He liked doing that.
“I thought I told you to leave.”
“I did.” Duh! she wanted to add. She left the basement.
“Then why are you still in my house?”
Oh, that. She couldn’t leave the house. She had tried many times. For some inexplicable reason, she was confined to this disgusting house—for eternity.
“I wanted to make sure you’re okay.”
Her eyes glided up and down his body. Shocking. She could look at his yummy body forever. Those muscles. The definition. The urge to run her hands everywhere. Not that it was possible, but she still had the urge to try.
“You have no visible marks. Like you never got hit with any voltage.”
He shivered. “I know. I still feel a bit odd, but otherwise fine.” He shook his head as if realizing who he was talking to. “Get out. Now!”
Bailey blew out a breath—or mimicked the simple gesture living people liked to do when they started to get annoyed. “I wish I could.”
“I don’t want to call the police, but I will.”
She chuckled. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”
“Oh, yeah, watch me.”
He breezed by her without touching her and into his room where he’d left his phone. She’d checked and tried to pick it up to call Todd, and of course, it hadn’t worked. She doubted Kade would tell him what had happened. Someone should know, in case he took a turn for the worse.
“One, they won’t believe you someone is in your house.”
He glared at her.
Well, they wouldn’t because only he could see her.
“Two, don’t they suspect you of killing your wife?”
The blood drained from his face, making her regret saying it so casually. As if they were friends and she could be so open and honest with him. Her father always told her she had no filter. That her mouth would get her into trouble one day. It had. It still did.
“I didn’t mean…that came out wrong.”
“Who are you?” Kade clutched the phone tighter but didn’t move to call the police. “How do you know about Susana?”
“I heard you and Todd talking about it. It took forever to get it out of you two, by the way.”
His eyes widened. “How long…how long have you been in the house?”
“Way too long.”
“I don’t care. I’m calling them.”
She rushed forward, shocking them both when she knocked the phone out of his hand, yet her hand had gone straight through his. Kade jumped back, almost dislodging the towel, forcing him to grab it before it fell to the floor.
Such a tragedy.
“Wow. I’ve never done that before. Well, I almost did with the fork, but it didn’t fall like the phone.” She jumped up and down, giddy with excitement. “Can we try something else?”
He still had a glazed look in his eyes, and she realized how unsympathetic she was acting.
“Sorry. This is all new for me.”
“For…for you?”
Oh, yeah. Duh.
“You too, I guess. First time seeing a ghost.”
“No, you’re a crazy lady that broke into my home.”
She took a step, he retreated. She kept walking forward until he had nowhere to go but against the wall. The newly built wall she was thoroughly impressed with. Kade was excellent with his hands. She hated to do this, but he’d keep denying it until he understood with clarity.
She reached up and caressed his cheek, or at least her hand fluttered close to his skin, touching, yet not touching. Like always, he shivered.
“You electrocuted yourself, Kade. You died and came back, and now you can see me. I’ve been here from the beginning. We’re roomies.”
