Craft time! Halloween style!

I did a craft recently, and I thought I’d share it with you lovelies. I haven’t shared a craft project in a very long time, so I thought, why not. This one is obviously for Halloween, and it’s super easy to make. I saw something similar on Pinterest and it finally gave me a great idea what to do with the wooden sign I had, but with nothing written on it. lol

Halloween Spooky Sign

What you will need:

  • Wooden sign (or anything you want to use)
  • Paint – Black and champagne metallic. (That’s what I used. You can use whatever colors you want.)
  • Paint Brushes
  • Pencil
  • Sandpaper (optional)

Let’s create:

So I bought this wooden sign ages ago at Michael’s. It came with the rope attached to it for easy hanging. If you don’t have something like that, you can either buy wall hanging strips (like command strips) or the sawtooth hangers, or find a piece of rope, or even ribbon and attached it to the back.

Next, paint it black. I like to use a wide paintbrush for this. It takes less time and it’s easy to paint with. Now, a little backstory on this piece of wood. It’s been white and silver before I painted it black, because many moons ago I had planned to use it for some lovey dovey saying (you know I love love), and I just didn’t like anything when I painted the saying on it. So it kept getting painted over. When I saw this creepy saying on Pinterest, it sparked motivation to finally use this darn piece of wood for something. So I painted it black. On the front and on the sides. I did paint it twice (okay, three times because I didn’t like how I wrote it the first time. lol) So, you just have to see how decent it looks with one or two coats. If it needs more, just slap another coat on. No biggie.

Once it’s dry and you have all the coats you want, grab some sandpaper. I took some sandpaper I had lying around in the garage and I just lightly sanded around the edges, just to give it an ‘old-fashioned’ feeling, if you know what I mean. I also did it over the middle, but not as heavy as I did around the edges.

This next part is up to you, but I used a pencil first to write the saying down.

IF YOU ARE READING THIS THEN YOU ARE BLISSFULLY UNAWARE OF WHAT IS CREEPING UP BEHIND YOU

I wanted to make sure it fit the way I wanted it to (even though I painted it and didn’t like it afterwards and redid it haha). So this way you can erase and position how you want it. Then grab the champagne metallic (or whatever color you’re using to paint the saying with) and a small thin tipped paint brush for easy writing. I didn’t use a stencil or anything, and I tried to give it some character. That’s why you see I extended the r’s some, made the y’s and g’s a little longer. I was going for the blood dripping kinda effect, or something like that. You know what I mean. My handwriting (handpainting lol) isn’t pretty, but the sign isn’t meant to be pretty, it’s meant to be creepy.

Let it dry. Then hang it up! (I hung mine inside the house, and now I just need someone to come visit. *evil grin* But if you hang it outside, I would recommend spraying it with Krylon UV-Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating. This is what I like to use when protecting projects that go outside.)

There you have it. A fun, spooky sign that is super easy to make. Should I do another project soon? I feel like I should. Hope you enjoyed this! Have a spooktacular week!
